Limestone British

Hard Rock Flooring specialises in English Limestones and are constantly sourcing different stones.

Limestone is a sedimentary rock primarily consisting of calcium carbonate and was formed in the floors of shallow tropical seas. Most limestone’s are oolitic which means it is formed from minute pieces of shell or grains of sand stuck with calcium carbonate from the sea. In some limestone’s there are considerable amounts of fossil due to the amount of creatures on the seabed during the stones formation. Most of the British limestone’s were formed during the Jurassic period of approximately 160 million years ago. The limestone’s we use for flooring can vary in colour from very pale grey/white to nearly black and are ideal for interior applications.
