Travertine is a form of massive calcium carbonate, resulting from deposition by springs and rivers. This stone has been affected by heat and pressure over many millions of years and is in fact a very hard and compacted limestone. The varying colours are formed by iron compounds and other organic impurities. Being so hard Travertine is a very practical flooring material for both residential and commercial use.
